Drainage investigations
Most refurbishment problems in drainage start with an assumption about what is already there. A drainage investigation replaces that assumption with evidence, and an engineer's interpretation of what the evidence does and does not show.
Request a fee proposalWhat the service covers
- Scoping and specifying drainage surveys and CCTV inspections
- Interpreting survey data, CCTV footage and condition grading
- Reconstructing drainage routes, connections and invert levels
- Investigating recurring blockages, flooding and odour problems
- Identifying gaps in the information and what further work would resolve them
When clients typically need it
- A refurbishment or change of use depends on reusing existing drainage
- A building has persistent drainage failures with no clear cause
- Records are missing, contradictory or clearly out of date
- A client needs an independent view before committing to remedial works
Deliverables
- Investigation scope and survey specification
- Record drawings of routes, connections and levels as established
- Condition summary with clear statements of confidence and limitations
- Recommendations for remedial works, further investigation or design
Common project constraints
- Limited access to chambers, stacks and runs within occupied spaces
- Sections that cannot be surveyed due to blockages, bends or pipe material
- Heritage fabric that restricts intrusive investigation
- Operational buildings where survey windows are short
How we approach it
- Define what the design needs to know before specifying the survey
- Be explicit about what CCTV and surveys cannot confirm
- Cross-check survey findings against drawings, site observation and levels
- Feed findings directly into the design rather than filing them as a report
